NSP Pre Matric and Post Matric Scholarships Selection Process

The selection process for Pre Matric and Post Matric fresh and renewal applicants is outlined as follows:

For Fresh Applicants Selection Process

Due to the fixed and limited number of NSP scholarships available for minorities each year, a preference system is in place for the selection process. Priority is given to poverty rather than marks, and applicants are required to submit an income certificate as per para-11(ii). In situations where multiple applicants have the same income, merit will be determined based on the ‘Date of Birth’ criteria, with preference given to the senior applicant.

For Renewal Applicants Selection Process

For renewal cases, there is no merit list generation. Eligible renewal applicants will receive the scholarship if they have achieved a minimum of 50% marks in their previous year’s examinations at the same institute and in the same course. Their application needs to be duly verified by all designated authorities (as specified by the Ministry of Minority Affairs) and approved by the respective State Governments/Union Territories. Meeting these criteria will ensure the renewal of their scholarship.

NSP Scholarships Distribution Rule

Muslims, Sikhs, Christians, Buddhists, Jains, and Zoroastrians (Parsis) have been officially recognized as minority communities under Section 2(c) of the National Commission for Minorities Act, 1992. The scheme aims to distribute a total of five (05) lakh online scholarships as ‘Fresh’ Scholarships, along with Renewal scholarships. The allocation of scholarships among the States/Union Territories will be based on the population of minorities in each State/Union Territory, following Census 2001 for 2017-18 and Census 2011 for 2018-19 and 2019-20 (as detailed in Appendices- A & B).
